“Water, Woods, Sky.”

My second exposition in 2022 displayed my personal confrontation with a world that is seemingly getting more and more crowded. It portrays a struggle to remember our roots with nature, particularly our longing for being near water, walking peacefully through woods, or escaping it all by simply flying mile high through skies. We increasingly fight an urban battle against ourselves. By living in exciting cities full of amenities and distractions, we lose touch with our roots. And although the mind convinces us that this is desirable, our souls miss our origins and long for looking at coastal horizons or feeling safe under trees in a quiet forest. I certainly feel this way at times and wanted my second exposition to get this message across to all of us.

Our World

This second exposition was presented in only two rooms. The main room featured three movies in sequence, of which “Our World” was the introduction. It is short and to the point: our lives are getting too crowded with people, buildings, cars and cell phones. Our daily routines have departed so much from those of our grand parents,´ they would hardly recognize our problems of today. Time is moving ever faster and we try to keep up. But ultimately fail. So we look for answers without really knowing the questions that we must tackle in order to enjoy a satisfying und fulfilling life.

Water

Several visits to Ireland, Crete, and the Adriatic Sea inspired me to see water as a truly important piece to regain balance. Most of our planet is covered by water, and we barely know the amazing variety of life that dwells within. We also came from water long, long time ago. In my understanding being near water has a calming effect on me. By looking at waves and a steady horizon many human-made problems I created back home seem ridiculous. This happens every single time. It shows us how simple life could be if we heeded the call of the Sea. The music I created for “Water” also portrays this longing for letting go.

Woods

Due to the high number of paintings I wanted to exhibit I opted for putting the chapter “Woods” into its own space. The breakout room was small enough to immerse into forests and its creatures, so that the viewer experienced a fuller vision of “Woods”. Each movie is a story and it was this room that fulfilled my desire to get away from the traditional way of looking at a painting. The idea of creating a multi-dimensional experience took its roots right then and there, and later on the term Art Immersion Room (AIR) was born because of it.

Sky

From water into the woods, and always envious of all heavenly creatures that fly. Not to be bound by gravity, to see the land below you like a seagull does. Our planet is full of people now. Even Greenland ambitious folk are moving to these days. Our drive to reach the stars, settle Mars, or walk on the moon only partly stems from an urge to look around the next corner. The sky fascinates us, for we imagine it to be filled with stars from far away and planets settled by beings just like us. However we haven´t met them yet. And deep in our souls we are afraid to find out if we are indeed alone in this universe. Since I was young I was fascinated by the skies above me. Painting clouds is a favorite part of each painting I create. Some of my paitings are mostly sky.
