A wonderful hiking trail begins in Duino, Italy, and leads along the coast to Trieste. The Rilke hiking trail, named after the poet Rainer Maria Rilke, starts at the Castello di Duino and winds its way eastwards along stony paths and through wooded areas along the Adriatic coast. An inconspicuous grotto hides on the cliffs, through which the late afternoon light streams and transforms the cave into a magical world, caught between shadow and light.
