In 1870, initial considerations were made to build a lighthouse between Milwaukee and Chicago in order to reduce the number of shipwrecked vessels. Ten years later, the lighthouse was completed and ready for use. Initially powered by kerosene, the lighthouse was then electrified in 1924. The lighthouse is still in use today, but is more of a tourist attraction.
