Part 5 of this lighthouse study looks at Split Rock Lighthouse in northern Minnesota. Split Rock was built in 1910 for $75,000 when the Mataafa Storm sank 29 ships on Lake Superior in 1905. Even today, this Great Lake still storms like the Atlantic in winter. In this picture, however, Lake Superior is at its calmest.
